Corinne Kaz, Birth & Postpartum Doula

“The journey from pregnancy to parenthood is an exciting one, full of wonderful surprises, unexpected bumps in the road and all manners of twists and turns. Every parent’s journey is a different one, and the support they need will differ as well. As a doula, it is my goal to provide information, care, and guidance for this journey, in the best way suited for each individual client.”

Corinne’s Approach to Doula Work

As a birth doula, Corinne focuses on connecting with clients. She knows each family has different needs when it comes to feeling safe and supported leading up to and during the birth of a child. Corinne is passionate about identifying those needs and strives to provide a foundation of support upon which her clients can build. That foundation of care, knowledge and commitment allows for clients to grow confident in themselves and their abilities, which then leads to a better birthing experience.
Corinne knows that when it comes to birth, there is no such thing as one size fits all and there is certainly no single way to give birth. What works for some, will not work for others and Corinne is truly dedicated to providing support for her clients on an individual level.
Through her training, Corinne has acquired skills including (but not limited to!) knowledge of positions for labor, massage for comfort and when best to use her slightly irreverent sense of humor to lighten the mood. Corinne’s goal is always to provide a safe and secure experience for families, and to leave them feeling loved and cared for.

Corinne’s Background

Corinne is originally from the San Fernando Valley in Southern California. The oldest of three girls, she is extremely familiar with the roles of nurturer and caretaker. She has a background in early childhood education and this, along with training in nonviolent communication and active listening serve her well in her work as a doula.
Corinne moved to Portland from Los Angeles in the summer of 2014 and completed her initial doula training with Wendy Scharp. She then went on to complete an internship with Jesse Remer at Mother Tree Doula Services, and is excited to be offering her services as a Labor and Birth Doula to the people of Portland. Corinne currently lives in North Portland with her partner Shawn, cats Mama Moon and Ginger and their dog Delvin. In her free time she enjoys reading, gardening and testing out new and outlandish recipes inspired by the Great British Baking Show.

“Corinne went above and beyond with her doula duties and I can’t recommend her enough! As a new mama, her support throughout my pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood was invaluable to us. She was very intuitive about when we needed time alone during labor and she even captured our most important moments as a new family. I am so glad that we had her there to share our birth experience. She is emotionally intelligent and has a lot of knowledge about hospital protocol and birth. There were plenty of things I thought I needed to do to prepare for birth but nothing was as important as having her there to keep us informed and supported.”
