Crystal Broer, Birth & Postpartum Doula

“Pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period are highly emotional, hard work, and a profoundly rewarding time in a woman's life. A time when support is so very crucial and can make a huge impact on how she feels about herself and the mind frame in which she approaches motherhood. My overarching intention is to ensure the memory of this time is a positive cherished one that can be looked back on fondly for a lifetime.”

Crystal’s Approach to Doula Work

Crystal began her journey to motherhood as a single teenager in high school. Her midwife treated her with respect and dignity, how she imagines the midwife treats all her patients, regardless of their age or socioeconomic status. Crystal doesn’t recall what exactly it was her midwife did to or for her but she does remember how she made her feel. This experience fueled Crystal’s passion for working with women in all walks of life during their own incredible journeys into motherhood. Crystal strives to provide her version of unbiased support that leaves women feeling capable, cared for, and respected.

As a doula, Crystal specializes in physical and emotional comfort measures, natural pain coping techniques and birth advocacy. Crystal enjoys using touch as a way of offering comfort, reassurance, and presence. Her ability to be a calm, informed presence in the room provides comfort not only to the laboring woman, but also to the loved ones supporting the birth experience. Crystal’s goal is to always stand beside a laboring woman supporting her beliefs and birth desires – and if those are being challenged – to help her revisit and adjust as the birth unfolds. Crystal’s overarching intention is to ensure the memory of birth is positive, cherished, and can be looked back on fondly for a lifetime.

Crystal’s Background

Crystal is a Birth and Postpartum Doula trained through Mother Tree Doula Services where she also completed a 6-month intensive Birth doula internship. She is currently working towards DONA certification and is an Oregon State Certified Traditional Health Worker. Crystal also volunteers her services with the Gateway Doula Project, where she supports low-income laboring women who cannot afford a private doula.

Crystal lives in Vancouver with her husband, Zame, who offers unwavering support while pushing her to chase her dreams. They have two wonderful boys, Drew, who is now grown and out of the home, and Aubyn, who is 10 years old. Crystal and her family also share their home with their hairless dog, Mora. Crystal enjoys traveling with her family, cruising around on her bicycle on a sunny day, and quiet Sundays at home with her boys watching football in their lounge wear.
