Emily Kendig, Birth & Postpartum Doula

My purpose is to be present, supportive, informative and encouraging to assist the mother and partner to achieve their ideal birth utilizing various coping mechanisms.  I believe every woman deserves and possesses the inherent strength and knowledge to strive for their ideal birth.

Emily’s Approach to Doula Work

Emily’s passion and dedication to women, babies and their families began many years before she became a mother. As a young woman, birth began to fascinate and amaze her. As she collected birth stories from the women around her, she developed an intense respect for the birthing woman, with a firm belief in the innate power of the body and its connection with the mind.  After having children of her own, she started serving pregnant women by journeying alongside and offering emotional support during this transformative process.

Her purpose is to be present, supportive, informative and encouraging to assist the mother and partner to achieve their ideal birth utilizing various coping mechanisms.  She believes every woman deserves and possesses the inherent strength and knowledge to strive for their ideal birth.

Emily’s Background

Emily trained as a birth and postpartum doula with Mother Tree Doula Services in Portland, OR. She also received advanced doula training through PDX Doulas at Oregon Health and Science University, which focused on collaboration with hospital births.  Currently, she is participating in an internship at Mother Tree.  She is also a DONA member, and is pursuing DONA International certification.

She combines emotional support along with reason and education, understanding how important it is to balance the heart and the mind.  She received her Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Mount Holyoke College in 2007, and worked in a cell biology lab at Rockefeller University in New York City.  Her strong background in the scientific field provides her with the knowledge and confidence to work within the hospital realm, and in a home environment with nurse midwives as well.

Emily lives with her husband, Dustin, their two sons, Christopher and Lucas, and their cat Tesla. In her free time she reads novels, gardens, and strives to bake the perfect pie.
