“All women and their loved ones deserve respectful, caring support during the childbearing year. By empowering women in pregnancy and birth, we doulas help them connect with their inner strength and wisdom needed for motherhood.”
Jessie’s Approach to Doula Work
Jessie is passionate about the transformative journey of the childbearing year. She believes that pregnancy and birth are profound physical and emotional experiences that are enriched by the support of a qualified doula. Jessie is an extensively trained certified birth doula, CD (DONA), committed to providing her heartfelt presence, cultivated listening skills, and evidence-based information as she gets to know you, your partner (if you have one), and your preferences for childbirth. By valuing your choices and tailoring her offerings to meet your needs, she empowers you and your loved ones to make this experience your own. The connection Jessie and her clients develop during prenatal visits opens the way for soothing, informed, and trust-based support during labor and birth. Jessie directly supports the birthing woman with safe and universal coping techniques, including comforting touch, movement, and help with relaxation. Her compassionate and professional communication skills have been key to unifying her clients’ birth teams, including providers and loved ones.
The childbearing years led Jessie down a beautiful and challenging path of self-discovery and connection to a rich well of women’s wisdom. The support and empowerment that she received from her doulas and midwives throughout pregnancy, labor, and miscarriage were essential to the integration of these moments into her journey.
Jessie began her doula training in Valencia, Spain in 2010 when her eldest son was an infant. The 10-month, full spectrum training was life-changing and inspiring, giving clarity to Jessie’s purpose in service to womanhood in all of its beautiful forms. In Spain, she also trained in prenatal kundalini and hatha yoga. In 2012, Jessie miscarried. It was a vulnerable and mysterious life experience that she shares with others so that all may be heard and supported, especially in difficult moments.
Her second son was born in Portland in 2014. While he was a baby, Jessie completed the Birth Doula training through DONA International (via Mother Tree Birth) as well as a six-month internship, and acquired the internationally-recognized DONA birth doula certification, CD(DONA).
Jessie lives her life under the guiding principle of gratitude, and treasures the full spectrum of life’s experiences, the beauty and the pain. She feels honored to share her journey with her beloved husband Victor and two sons, who have made Portland their home since 2013. Jessie, both a nature-lover and an extroverted urbanite, loves to sing and dance, attend concerts and festivals, and thrift shop.
